It looks good! However, here are the problems. We have NO idea what the rest of the floor looks like. We would have to pull up all the carpet to get a good idea of what we are dealing with. Also, it would still be a ton of work to pull it all up, sand it, and finish it. I keep asking around, and no one wants to help with this project. I wonder why? hehehSo, I think my heart knows that we are stuck with the carpet at least for a little bit more. Yesterday I took some spot cleaner and scrubbed and scrubbed. I do think it looks a bit better now.
Then I went to Home Depot and did the unthinkable. I bought these clear mats for our entry way. I think they do look a bit tacky, but they are practical.If anyone would volunteer to finish our floors for us, that would be super!!!!

Hey Stacey - Have you considered just pulling up the carpet in the square shape of the clear mat? Then you would have room for the door to clear if you put a small throw rug there, still have your carpet in the living room and get experience of re-doing that small amount of hardwood. (then maybe you might want to try more later on!) The throw rug would be easier to replace or wash if gets too dirty after the winter then always having to clean the carpet.
I just realized my mom left a comment here! But I have to say--good idea mom! I definitely think that'd be something to consider Stacey! Good luck with it! :-)
