Hot, Hot, Hot!

For those of you that don't know me personally, I'm a fair weather gal. If the weather never got hotter than 75 degrees I would be a happy camper. I think I would do well in Alaska. The weather around here has been pretty warm for the past couple of days, and our house is even warmer. We do have air, but its REALLY old, and does not work all that great. So I have taken to looking online for ways to keep a house cool. Seeing that our house has NO insulation, we are getting some quotes for this. Does anyone have any idea about how to keep a cool house? Please let me know!

And now for my favorite game...name that plant!

This large plant like thing is growing against the fence in our backyard, and I have no clue what it is. It reminds me of Jack and the Beanstalk. If this looks familiar to anyone please let me know! Thanks!

Back to Work

Today was my first day back to work after surgery! I have to say it was nice to be back, and it will be even nicer to get a paycheck! When I was gone Dane(the youngest of the three that I nanny for) not only turned 13 months, but he is walking all over the place! When I left he was only taking a step here and there. Not anymore!

Wowie Wow Wow

So Donnie and I have discovered quite the underground art scene in Detroit. Surprisingly it is fairly large. We have found this by networking with people in the Creative Arts Group that we attend. (for those that don't know...Donnie is an AWESOME drawer, and I love doing anything crafty)

Anyways......we have big news

Our work is going to be on display at a gallery!!!!
How cool is that? Donnie and I awhile back made this painting of our overlapping hands. We had it hanging up in the apartment for the longest time. But now we are putting on display, and maybe somebody will even buy it!
Opening night for the show is June 2 from6-11, and June 3rd from 4-10. The gallery is in Ferndale, so if your in the area stop by! The postcards that I posted have the address and such. There are artist from all over the world that will have their art there. And these are REAL artist, people who making a living doing this. I'm not sure how we got in! :-)

Crazy Weekend!

I know I have not posted in a couple of day because this weekend was SO busy for us! Friday night we went to a wedding of a friend of Donnie's. Then Saturday my dear friends Katie and Emily came over and made Donnie and I lunch! How cool is that? They were not able to make it for the open house, so they came over Saturday. We also had a great time playing with Frankie. We got him to actually play with a toy!!! (he's not too big into toys)
Tonight was another wedding. My dear friend Rachel got married. Rachel and I lived together in college. We had some GREAT times together. Needless to say she was a beautiful bride, and we had a great time dancing the night away! In the picture is Megan, Jenn, Rachel and myself. The four of us lived together my junior year of college. (Rachel's freshman year....that's a whole other story!)

Frankie Updates

I think it is safe to say that Frankie is a full member of the family now. Its funny how attached you can get to a furry guy so fast!

He still is not too found of his crate at bed time. I need some input from you dog people out there. How long should it take him to get used to his crate? Is there a point that we should forget about using the crate? Any tips would be great!

Frankie made a friend today!!! His first friend at his new house! We were out walking today and met a dog about the same size as Frankie. The dog's mom told us that she(the other dog) is 7 years old, just like Frankie! The had a very nice time getting to know each other. We will have to have her over for a play date!

The First 24 Hours

Its official. Frankie has been with us for 24 hours now. What fun we have had with him so far!

So far he has been a great dog. No chewing on things, no marking his territory, no over the top barking, no going through the garbage, no tearing up toilet paper. I have been very impressed by his behavior.
Last night he did not like the idea of sleeping in his crate. (although I know he slept in a crate at his foster house.)He did wine and whimper for a while before falling asleep. Due to medication that I'm currently on I'm not sleeping very well so for quite awhile I was listening to both my dear husband, and Frankie snoring logs. It was sorta cute. hehehe
Today my mom came over to take me to the doctor's for a check up. (all is well-I got my stitches out!) After we came back my mom and I took Frankie to a walk to the post office. He LOVED that! I thought he was going to pass out from excitement.
Then he spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch sleeping. Too funny.

Big News!!!!

We have BIG news!!! Can anyone guess what it is? We have a new family member!!!!!!!! Everyone say a big hello to Frankie!!!! Needless to say I have had a VERY busy day. I was only on the couch for about 50% of the day! I am feeling much better today, but at this point in the day I'm about to fall over. Goodnight!

I'm Back!

I'm happy to report that I'm back blogging! Yeah! Although I did spend about 95% of my day on the couch, I think I am feeling better.

Today is a big day, it is my dear husbands birthday! Birthdays are a big deal to me, and I knew I was going to be out of it this weekend, so I tried to get everything in place before I went into the hospital. For his present he wanted money to go to his favorite comic shop. I'm not one to give money to someone for their birthday so I knew I had to think of something crafty for this. What I ended up doing was making little boxes out of money and putting a quarter inside each one of them. I also taped quarters to the outside of his present.
Also, we had a little party. I made sure I had all the decorations and every thing before Thursday. We had a great little time. Donnie loves Chinese food, so he went and got that for his birthday dinner. We even ate dinner at the table! My first meal not on a bed or a couch!

This picture of me looks sort of scary. My eyes look way to big. But I think it looks good for just having surgery!I love to make cakes, but seeing that I'm laid up I bought him a Kmart cake. Planning ahead has paid off today!

Okay..back to the couch I go!

Stacey's Day at the Hospital

Hi all, this is Donnie. Stacey graciously allowed me to have her password and login so that I could post about her experiences at the hospital and her surgery. So please bear with me, I'm not nearly as entertaining as my beloved wife.

First the funny part, Stacey was called back to be prepped for surgery while her mother, our pastor and I waited in the lounge for about a half hour. When they were done with her they allowed us to come in the back and wait with her. But the funny part was that they had given Stacey some sort of sedative and she was as high as a kite! She was so funny! She was joking and carrying on like she was drunk! It was so cute, and her mother and I enjoyed talking with her while she was in this condition.
Finally after waiting for over an hour and a half the nurses asked us to leave and they took my baby back for surgery. I can't explain how scary it was for me to walk away from her right then knowing what was about to happen. With ANY surgery there is always some risk and it felt like I might never see her again. It might seem silly that I was so worried but it was all I could do to bite back tears as I said my goodbye's and goodluck.

The surgery was supposed to last only about an hour and a half, but because the doctors had trouble getting some machines that they needed moved into the operating room things went went much more slowly. Joyce and I waited about three hours on pins and needles not knowing if anything was wrong or not. :-(

Finally, when the surgery was complete and Stacey was beginning to wake up we were allowed to see her. She looked so weak and sick when we entered the room that once again I had to fight back tears. I didn't want Stacey to see them and possibly become frightened.

She was very disoriented and a little frightened after surgery which under the circumstances make perfect sense to me. I promised her that I would stay with her all night if the hospital staff would let me. I was flattered and touched to see how much this comforted her. I feel very blessed to have such a sweet woman to spend the rest of my life with.

When they took Stacey to her room for the night I was told that I couldn't stay the night there with her. So, being the law-abiding citizen that I am,(he he he) I decided to hang out with her as long as I could without them noticing it and I was able to get away with sitting with her in her room to nearly midnight! Then finally her nurse noticed me there and asked me to leave.

They let me bring Stacey home around 1:30 p.m. yesterday. She's very sore and not moving too well right now. But she is however, doing better than yesterday. She's fully alert now and from time to time she gets up and walks shakily around the house. I'm keeping her well supplied with Popsicles and soft foods.

Here she is resting on the couch with all her stuffed babies. (And Optimus Prime, he was so worried about her that I couldn't keep him away!) She wanted me to post and let everyone know how much she appreciates your prayers and to let you know that she's doing fine. She has the next week off of work, so I'm sure as she gets her strength back she will be posting as soon as she feels up to it.

One More Hour!

Well...I have one more hour till I need to be at the hospital. Good thing for me, the hospital is only like 5 min away. I want to thank everyone for their prayers! It means so much to me! I really am feeling good about this whole thing. Not saying that I'm looking forward to it.

To prove that I have the BEST husband in the world, Donnie went and got me Wendy's last night at 11pm!!!! How sweet is that? I could not eat anything after midnight, and the only thing I really wanted was a frosty, so he went to get it for me!

I'll be sure to update later! Is it bad to bring my camera to the hospital? hehehe

Going Under

As I have posted before, my thyroid has revolted against me in the past few months. As of tomorrow that will all change. I will be having the left part of my thyroid removed tomorrow. Not something that I'm looking forward to. However, I am taking almost two weeks off of work, so that is something I will be looking forward too! I would love prayers that everything goes as planned and I have a fast recovery! Thanks!

Happy (late) Mothers Day!

Sunday was a big day for us around here. My mom wanted us to go see my Grandma who lives in Ohio. So we drove 4 hours there and 4 hours back all in one day. It was crazy! However, my grandma had no idea that Donnie and I were coming, and she was SO surprised. That made it all worth it. It was nice getting to visit with her for awhile, because I had not seen her in awhile.

On our way back home we had dinner at Cracker Barrel. I was playing around with my camera settings and took this picture. I think it turned out fun!

What a Deal!

Today my hubby and I headed over to the library to find some books. But when we were there we saw that the library was having a used book sale. If there is one thing that my husband can not resist it is used book sale. We were looking around, and Donnie found a bunch of books that he had been wanting.

Here's the best part..he got about $140 worth of books for $13! How cool is that? Needless to say Donnie is a very happy camper.
I did not buy any books, however I did check out a few. I got three books about Pugs, so I can read up about the breed. (we were told that we should be getting a letter in the mail soon about the Pug) Also I checked out a couple Junie B. Jones books. I read these books to students when I was teaching last year, and the kids that I nanny for now love them. I think they are SO funny, I had to read them to Donnie. Now he is hooked, and we read them together!

Whats That Sound?

Over the past couple of days I have heard an odd sound. It goes by the name of biological clock, and its ticking away in me. I realized the other day that this year I'm going to be 28. Then I thought if I want children I better have them soon. This thinking got my clock ticking very loudly.

Here's the thing. Donnie and I do not want children any time soon, if ever. And due to a current medical condition it would take a miracle to have a child right now. But the clock keeps asking me, what if I wait too long, and then I'm not able to have kids.

So here is my conclusion...I'm not going worry anymore about my ticking clock until I'm 35. However, I would like to hear from you all. If you have kids, how old where you when you had them? If you don't have kids (and want kids) how old do you want to be when you have one?

Weekend Fun

Last weekend Donnie and I celebrated our big one year anniversary. For our honeymoon we stayed at the Dearborn Inn, and my mom's present to us this year was another night there. I have the best parents ever!

So on Saturday afternoon we checked into the hotel and then went to Greenfield Village. We had a great time there. The highlights of the trip included riding the carousel and eating frozen yogurt. (well..at least those were the highlights for me!)

On Saturday night we got room service, and that was great fun. Please note that the shrimp was not mine. Then on Sunday morning we had a huge breakfast in our room. (this was included with the price of our room)
We had a great time there, and needless to say we did not want to leave.

Here is an update on the dog situation: We thank everyone who has given us there two cents! Donnie and I are praying about it to see what the Lord would have us do. Currently our application is being reviewed. Donnie says that if they don't call us than it was not meant to be.

Dog?

Today my hubby and I headed to Petsmart to pick up some gerbil and hammy food. Well...when we were there, their was a pug rescue group there. Now keep in mind Donnie and I have been thinking about getting a dog for awhile now. We fell in love with THE cutest little pug.

Frankie (pictured above) is 7 years old and very mellow. We hung out with him and his foster parents for quite awhile today at Petsmart. He is not much of a licker (a plus for me!), not too much of a barker, and does not mind being home alone. He loves to go on walks, but most of the time loves to sleep. Seeing that Donnie and I love to sleep also I think its a perfect match!

However dogs are a lot of work, and you can't leave them alone for very long. Also its a very big commitment to adopt a dog!So here is where your help is needed. Should we adopt Frankie? Please leave your two cents!!! Thanks!!!

Fun Day!

Not only was Wednesday our one year anniversary, but it was also my half birthday! I know! Life does not get any better than that!

To celebrate both of these occasions my mom had us over for dinner. It was great! She even had our wedding flowers, and a cake for us! How sweet is that? Also for my half birthday my mom got me some super cute PJ's and a couple shirts. I have the best mom ever. Donnie on the other hand says he does not believe in half birthdays. grrrr

Donnie and I before going to my mom's exchanged gifts. (note: Donnie did not get me anything for my half birthday!) Donnie got me a gift certificate for my favorite spa!!!! How cool is that? That almost makes up for the fact that he did not get me anything for my half birthday!

As many of you know Donnie is HUGE into Transformers. And a while back we came across a potato head transformer. So I knew I had to get this for him. Needless to say he loved it and it was added to the collection very fast. I also got him a game that we was wanting for his PlayStation.
What a great day we had!!!

Happy One Year!

Today marks one year that Donnie and I have been married! What a great year this has been. Last night Donnie and I reminisced about our favorite memories from the past year. Needless to say it was very hard to come up with just one. I'm so blessed that God brought Donnie into my life to be my husband! Here are some wedding pictures for you to enjoy!

Pots and Such.

As I posted before, at our open house we had flower pots for the kids to paint. Well...we had a few pots left over so Donnie and I painted them a couple nights ago. We had a blast doing it. The pictures are the end results. Those people that know Donnie and I will be able to tell who did what pots. hehehe

In other news...I found out the other day that I have to have cardiac clearance before I have surgery on my thyroid. So, today I went to yet another doctor, who sent me to another doctor for a stress test. I should have the results back in a couple days, but the doctor said I should be a okay for surgery. However, the doctor did tell me I was out of shape. And I told him to bite me.
